Leon Lurje Trophy 2020: The Personal Best Scores Edition!

On Saturday, Seniors and Juniors performed their free skating programs in Gothenburg, Sweden. Team Paradise and Team Sunrise 1 from Russia won the categories. Advanced Novices’ competition began and Team Sunrise 2 from Russia leads clearly. Leon Lurje Trophy 2020 was also the opportunity for many teams to set a new personal record!

A tight competition in Seniors

InrnSeniors, Team Paradise from Russia kept theirrnlead. They won the free skating with 150.32 points and gatheredrn231.85 points in total.

rnrnThe freernskating competition was tight between the three teams. Team Uniquernfrom Finland was third in free skating with 147.58. In total, they gotrn227.61 points which was enough for the second place.

rnrnCrystalrnIce Senior from Russia was 4th after short programs, but the skaters managedrnto get to the third place with 223.44 points. They received 149.09rnpoints for their free skating program to "Bollywood" which was the second-best ofrnthe day.

Reaction of the Team Paradise's coach after the victory!

Lumineers from Finland got 207.46 in total and was placed 4th followed really closely by two Canadian teams. Nova Senior who gathered 207.31 points in total after clear and stunning free skating. Nexxice was third after short programs but the free skating performance was weaker and they fell in two elements. They were placed 6th with 206.12 points.

The teams from the United States, Miami University (186.98) and Crystallettes (180.77) kept their positions. Hot Shivers from Italy was placed 9th with 158.15 points. Team Berlin from Germany got 149.71 in total, after an energetic program to "Aquaman".

Team Passion from Hungary and Ice Storms from Australia completed the Senior rankings.

The Leon Lurje Trophy 2020 allowed several teams, such as Team Paradise, Team Unique, Crystal Ice and Lumineers to achieve their best score of the season!

Russian teams, unbeatable in Juniors

InrnJuniors’ category Team Sunrise 1 from Russia won thernfree skating with 129.89 points. Second after the short programs, the Russian took first place in the final event and was the only junior team to surpass the 200-point mark (202.46 points).

rnrnCrystalrnIce Junior from Russia failed their pivoting block which cost them lots ofrnpoints. They earned 122.23 for their free program which was placedrnthird. With a total score of 196.81, they kept second place.

rnrnTeamrnFintastic from Finland had the second-best free skating programrn(127.16). They had one fall in no hold element, but otherwise, thernprogram was clear. They were placed third with a total score of 193.35.

With 15 participating teams, the Junior division was an exciting event to follow!

First competition day for the Novices

AdvancedrnNovice teams skate twice during the weekend, on Saturday andrnSunday. Teams receive only half of their program score for eachrnperformance and their total score will be the average of the two separaternprogram scores.

rnrnTeamrnSunrise 2 from Russia took a huge lead after earning 49.53rn(99.05) points. Their performance was overpowering. They even had anrnangled intersection which is rarely seen in the Advanced Novice category.

rnrnCrystal Blades from Finland are in second place with 36.37 (72.74)rnpoints. They were the first team to skate, and apparently did notrnknow the segment score was only half of their program score, as theyrnwere a bit upset. The scoring system was explained to the audience andrnskaters later.

rnrnBluernArrows from Finland is currently in third place after earningrn34.34 (68.68) points for a clear program. Competition continues onrnSunday and will be exciting as Team Limelight from Sweden isrnless than a point away from the podium.
