The Boston Synchronized Skating Classic took place Friday and Saturday in the USA. Hosted by the Skating Club of Boston and Team Excel, the competition brought together many synchro teams coming mainly from the East of the country.
U.S. Multiple National Champions, the Haydenettes was the only Senior team. The most successful team skated a clean short program and had more difficulties with the Free Skate, especially with the second lifts. The team earned 192.10.
In the Junior division, Lexettes both programs earned 158.60 points. Second after the short program behind Team Image (Yonkers FSC - 144.46), the team reached the first place. Team Image already got the silver medal a few weeks ago in Philadelphia. Representing Washington, DC EDGE claimed third with a total score of 135.65. The local team Excel from Boston finished fourth and Synchroettes completed the rankings.
With a huge score of 63.54, Skyliners dominated the Novice competition in Boston. Their Moves element and their Intersection brought them great scores. DC EDGE got the silver medal with 53.93. Star Mates (Hayden Recreation Centre FSC) had to deal with one fall in the Intersection element (52.47). Team Ashburn received the pewter medal and Synchroettes who also had a fall at the beginning of the program, finished 5th.
The Intermediate category was of the fiercest competition with nine teams competing. Ice Mates captured first place with 66.98. Luckily for them, the fall during the intersection didn’t cost them a lot. Team Image came in second with a score of 63.02. Skyliners from New York claimed third with 62.82. Team Image and Skyliners got exactly the same score for the Program Components.
Only one team from Boston competed in the Collegiate division. Team Excel got 60.24 for this first competition.
Skyliners won the Juvenile competition (51.89) even if a fall occurred during the Pivot Block. Mini Mates skated a clean program and placed second with 50.56. Team Image edged into third place with a score of 42.60. Without their fall at the end of the program, the team could have claimed the silver medal. Team Delaware, Team Excel, and Synchroettes completed the rankings.
Three teams competed in the Adult division. Representing Boston, Team Excel was the only team to get more than 50 points and they logically won the competition (50.89). Team Image finished second with 46.59 and Ocean Blades (Warwick) placed third with a total score of 44.35.
