Last Saturday, the 1st competition of the Quebec region in Canada took place in St-Hubert. This event welcomed 75 teams from across Quebec and Ontario.

The Synchro Nova St-Hubert invitation is the annual event in Quebec that allows public and skaters to meet most of the teams in the region. During this day of competition, synchro skaters from Elementary to Senior, through Intermediate, Open and Adults competed on the ice.

New features for Canadian teams

This season, skating age requirements have changed the distribution of teams in each category. Indeed, in the national level divisions, only two teams were present in the Novice category (Nova and Les Suprêmes), one in Junior (Nova, a new team formed this summer) and one in Senior (Nova also). The Open and Intermediate categories seem to have attracted more skaters. They were respectively five and six teams to perform.

Another change this year is the Elementary rating system, for which we saw five different teams of young skaters. For this category, the technical panel does not submit a scoring sheet as we know it for several years, but eight evaluations of 5 elements with some program components (Gold, Silver, Bronze, Merit).

No doubt, one of the highlights of the day was the performance of Nova Senior in the short program. The team skated this season to a medley of Elvis Presley that trains the public from the first note of music to the end.

This weekend, it was also Canada's Ice Festival celebrating 150 years of the country. The synchronized skating association OneTeamMVMT organized two events in Montreal and Laval in order to introduce hundreds of people to our sport, still not well known in the country. The CPA PAT Dynamics, which evolves into Adults 2, have introduced synchronized skating to the Atrium 1000's guests.

Les Suprêmes were skating at the new ice rink, Place Bell, where the Invitation Laval will be held next January (Saturday, January 13, 2018).
